Welcome to the Western Dressage Association® of Oklahoma
We will provide an educational and competitive environment which is accessible to all Oklahoma riders and horses. Our mission will be guided by that of the Western Dressage Association® of America which states:
The mission of the Western Dressage Association® of Oklahoma is to build an equine community that combines the Western traditions of horse and rider with Classical Dressage. We honor the horse. We value the partnership between horse and rider. We celebrate the legacy of the American West.
Today, the journey with our own horses is just beginning with Western Dressage. This will be a partnership which honors the horse for the central role he has played in our history. Come join us in this great adventure.
“It’s about the journey.”
-Larry Mahan, American cowboy
In September of 2012, Oklahoma formed the first affiliate state organization, the Western Dressage Association® of Oklahoma (WDAOK.) The WDAOK welcomes all breeds to participate in our events. If your horse can walk and trot, there is a place for him within the Western Dressage Association® of Oklahoma.
The WDAOK will offer educational opportunities to inspire and enlighten western riders and their horses to a higher level of horsemanship and partnership through the use of dressage. We will work with the national organization to create an educational environment and competitive format within the horse industry for the Western Dressage horse and rider. Western Dressage helps a rider to improve the horse’s balance, cadence and carriage. Whether your horse competes in reining, roping, cutting, western pleasure, or enjoys the trail with you, using dressage will improve your partnership and keep your horse happier and sound far longer than he would otherwise be.
In keeping with our mission, the WDAOK offers clinics to introduce Western Dressage to riders that are new to the discipline as well as those looking to improve their competitive edge. Clinic locations and events are added throughout the year. Stay informed by visiting us on our facebook page, and visiting the website calendar often.
