A  message from the GCC board.

Hi Everyone!

The GCC Board would like to thank everyone that braved the weather to attended the AGM and Year-end Awards Banquet.  The Horse of Course did an EXCELLENT job on the Champion and Reserve Champion prizes. Riverbend Arena is top-notch with wonderful facilities and food!  The benefit auction was action packed with heavy bidding on items from private/group lessons to hand crafted pieces. A big thank you to Corinne Bridgeman for organizing.  It was certainly a fun day of friendship and celebration!

Everyone indicated that they would like to learn more about volunteering at shows… Ask and you shall receive!! We will hold a Volunteer Educational Event on Saturday, February the 25th at Rocking C Stables (Patty and Larry Couch) at 12:00.  We will show you what it takes to run a show from the gate-keeper to the scribe. Please join us for a potluck lunch, demo ride and a drawing for a cool prize!! RSVP to Annie Houchin – ahouchin@midcon-energy.com 918-260-0323

We all LOVED the ½ zip, long sleeve pull-overs (see attached pic) that were the prizes for our 2016 Champions and you could have one of your very own (minus the “2016 Champion”)!! If you would like to order a shirt, please send a check made out to GCC for $35 (each) indicate your desired size (up to 3X, true to size) and color (French blue and/or forest green) and mail to:  Stephane Peck at: 10489 N. 68th W. Ave – Skiatook, OK  74070

Orders will be placed on 1/31/17 and we will contact you when they are ready.

Adult Rider Dressage camp is filling up. We won’t cash your check until after the event and there is no deposit required. Get your applications(see attached) in ASAP!

We are excited to announce that, along with shows at West Equestrian Center, the OKC Metro schooling shows at High Hill Farm will be added to our list of shows that are recognized for GCC Year-end Awards.

As always, please feel free to ask if you have any questions!

THANKS!

Baby J was born on March 22, 2011 in a sale barn in Slick, OK.  On March 25, 2011, I saw her ad on Craigslist.  I had not had a horse in 35 years; we had just sold our midtown home and bought an project house on 10 acres.   Even though we had no place to put Baby and her momma, we showed up at 7 am the next morning to make sure we could buy her.  I just knew there would be a line at the gate wanting to snag her.   Probably sounds like a ridiculous scenario, it gets better…I had never trained a horse, only rode periodically as a kid had no idea what I wanted to do with horses but I knew I wanted this little filly.  I figured by the time she was old enough to ride that I would have figured out what I wanted to do with her.  Side note:  At 50 years old you start thinking that you might as well go all in, time isn’t on your side any longer, and to think about what you “wished you would have done” does not sound very appealing.

In the fall of 2013 I found Western Dressage and decided to go for the Western Dressage Futurity with Baby J.  In 2014, she was the winner.  I continued to ride Baby J as often as I could in 2015 but mainly on trails, Baby J does not like arena work.

In 2016, WDAOK announced the Rookie Horse Series and Baby J came to mind again.  She had only been in one schooling show, ever, and only shown in Intro 1, she met the qualifications.  So back into the arena we went…well, sort of.   Baby J prefers the wide open spaces and being able to go, go, go.  She may be better suited for endurance to be honest.  We do a lot of trail rides and even on the days that we do arena work we ride outside either before or after arena work.  The Rookie Horse Championships will be Baby J’s 6th show ever.  I can honestly say that had it not been for the commitment required for the Rookie Horse Series I would not have shown her at all this year.

Baby J is the horse that teaches me to be patient, creative and persistent.  She has taught me more than I will ever teach her.  I am proud to be her partner and proud to be part of the 2016 Rookie Horse Series Championship.
